Seedling CC-1. Parentage: ‘Coral Charm’ open pollinated. First bloomed 2004. First propagated 2013. SINGLE. Two rows of cupped, slightly frilled and well-rounded petals form a 5½ inch (14 cm) flower. Color is coral, a little dusky with more red and less yellow than pod parent, fading to cream. Average 4-5 carpels, green, moderately hairy, stigmas red. Disc notched, coral red. Filaments are a reddish yellow, pure yellow towards base and tips, anthers yellow. Three sidebuds on average while up to six have been counted. Not fragrant. Rather slow-growing but maturing to an impressive clump, some 50 inches (130 cm) tall and wide. Leaves with up to twelve lanceolate leaflets, up to 5 inches (13 cm) long and 1½ inches (4 cm) wide. Both stems and laterals straightly upright, support not needed. Blooms midseason, few days later than ‘Coral Charm’. Presumed triploid with limited but usable fertility. Seeds are rather large, brown. Plant has been used for breeding as both a pod and pollen parent. It has demonstrated ability to produce flower-in-flower doubling in offspring. Limited prior distribution under number to nurserymen and peony breeders.
