Seedling number 8. Parentage unknown. First year bloomed 2008; first propagated 2010. SINGLE. Flower size 4½ inches (11.5 cm). Purplish-red flower having 2 rows of guard petals which are held loosely cupped. Guards are nicely rounded except that several have a relatively deep cleft at mid-point, giving the impression of narrower, more numerous petals, much as in a lotus flower. An average of 3 green carpels, smooth, having normally shaped purplish-red stigmas. Has stamens, pollen, and seeds. Narrow pointed leaflets on upright, purplish red stems reaching 33 inches (85 cm) in height. Blooms midseason. The name chosen to reflect the color and the lotus-like form of the flower.
