Seedling 99/034. Parentage: Raised from open polliated mixed Gansu Mudan seeds. First bloomed 1999. First propagated 2014. SINGLE with 2-3 rows of petals. One flower per stem, 16 cm (6¼”) in size. Fragrance. Dark red flares extend quarter of petal’s length, with bleeding edges. Petals pale pink fading to white at tips. Carpels white, moderately hairy, 5 in number. Stigmas white, normal anatomy. Pollen-bearing stamens, filaments dark pink at base, grading to white at the tips. Sheath white, complete. Blooms early/mid-season. Typical Gansu Mudan foliage. Spreading upright growth habit to 100 cm (40″). Has a lovely flower character with petals held cupped, hence the name which is an archaic adjective meaning sweet or lovely, now remaining as a musical term to indicate tender or gentle. Like its sister seedlings it is a healthy and vigorous plant. To be propagated and distributed by W. Giessler, Gross-Rosenburg, Germany.
