Their reports have been posted and are interesting reading, especially if you grow a larger number of peonies.

Well, I was planning to browse through some old messages on the specialized yahoo groups discussion boards. I could find the groups I’m a member of, but could not locate any messages? After some searching I found yahoo has made some changes, some of them being ‘conversations, message history and attachments’ are gone. In short, all those thousands…Read More

Pink Vanguard, which has as its parents Salmon Dream and Blushing Princess. It resembles the latter more than the former and grows far better than both here.

Rozella, from my greenhouse (it’s a late blooming cultivar in fact). How to say this without overstating it? It’s a perfect plant I think 😀. Very sturdy straight stems, an immensely large flower. Floriferous. Clean closed bud. Dark green healthy foliage. It’s by far my favourite dark pink and I cannot recommend it highly enough. According to David…Read More

How’s your light pink mutation growing, Koen? That would be most promising also. We need more statue peonies like Rozella.

Last fall I dug and divided my two plants of it. The one which wasn’t pure yet was kept separately and again I’ve tried to get rid of the dark pink part. The small divisions remaing didn’t flower this year. The ‘pure’ one was divided and replanted and flowered. There was one flower which had one remaining dark pink petal, the rest of the flowers…Read More

Nancy, nice colour, extremely large foliage, upright and seems to be a healthy plant and a good grower, also quite early.
My established roots had extremely large carpels during flowering already this year.

This is 44-T, an unregistered plant from Harald Fawkner. I’m starting to like it. It’s a hybrid with very sturdy stems and has large flowers. What makes it really stand out from the crowd is the flower form, this one has ‘Japanese’ flowers, meaning the stamens are transformed into very small staminodes, devoid of any pollen. This flower form is…Read More

No more open flowers to take images, but we should have Canary Brilliants flowering again by the end of June, early August. Mowed down several rows of them, most two weeks ago, some one week ago and the last ones just now. Waiting longer resulted in regrowth but very few flowers some years ago. The first ones are growing again.

The first ones are starting to flower. Round buds this time, not pointed. They are also more double and have somewhat less woody stems. There’s quite some difference between the plants, they have all grown again, but some give 8 stems with a bud, whilst others only 1. It’s the first time that I cut back such young plants (2nd growing season),…Read More

The postman just brought us the latest American Peony Society (APS) Bulletin. An interesting publication that is. Amongst several articles also an obituary for Hermann Krupke, Swedish peony specialist and hybridizer of that pretty Coral Charm seedling named after his wife ‘Christina’. Harvey Buchite from Hidden Springs Flower Farm lists some of…Read More

Bij mij bijna 100% verdroogde knoppen dit jaar. Misschien ongelukkig getimede nachtvorsten? Geen idee. Blushing Princess staat er naast en die had bijna geen verdroogde knoppen. Vond het wel vrij extreem, zie dit zelden in de hybriden maar Pink Vanguard dus tot in extremis dit jaar.
