Well, I was planning to browse through some old messages on the specialized yahoo groups discussion boards. I could find the groups I’m a member of, but could not locate any messages? After some searching I found yahoo has made some changes, some of them being ‘conversations, message history and attachments’ are gone. In short, all those thousands of messages about peonies have simply been deleted. It would have been nice had they at the very least sent out a message to tell us they would be thrown away, then we could have saved the most interesting ones. Gone are those long mails from Don Hollingsworth, Bob Johnson, Bill Seidl and so many others that wrote so much about hybridizing, growing peonies, choosing the best cultivars, what varieties do best in this and that climate and so on. I’d have to say I’m quite a bit disappointed in having lost all that information now, it may not have been actively used anymore (everybody’s on facebook and instagram after all), but there sure were some very informative conversations.
