Paeonia flavescens. From selfed seeds from a wild plant which originated in Sicily (around Palermo). Theoretically a synonym for either P. mascula russoi or P. mascula hellenica, and thus not officially recognized as a species itself, though there’s reason to believe it is. It resembles neither of those synonyms in fact. Looks most like mascula hellenica, but then this flavescens is creamy white (even very pale yellow) with some pink/reddish at the base of the petals and the leaflets look different in color and structure. In the wild some pale pink plants can also be found and they grow together. It is said that P. flavescens also flowers some two weeks later than P. mascula russoi (which is not white, but rather (dark) pink to crimsom), but as I don’t have that one, I cannot confirm. It does flower before P. mascula hellenica though. It’s a healthy plant, but a slow stem increaser.

And here I thought I was looking at an orchid, when I realised the poor petal was cut away on purpose, to reveal the structure.
