As some may (or may not) know, I grow peonies as cut flowers. Some of my clients (florists or end customers) at times spontaneously take some pictures of those and there are always a few rather pretty ones. Here you have some of those. Showcasing mostly The Fawn, Old Faithful, Coral Sunset, Amalia Olson and Bowl of Cream.
2 CommentsOur peony season if completely over. Pastelegance was chosen as the Peony of the Year. That’s not a favorite of mine as it doesn’t grow too well here (Belgium). It has a very beautiful double flower, I cannot argue with that, but the plant habit is failing here. One that has a somewhat comparable color (perhaps a little paler) is Just Peachy,…Read More
A rare gem for most peony hybridizers: B-3, an as yet unnamed and unregistered seedling from Bartzella x Lemon Chiffon, thus an intersectional backcross, of which there aren’t many. It’s a sister seedling to Moonwalk (formerly B-4) and Golden Monika (B-1). All of them hybridized by Hans Maschke from Germany. He has no nursery, and doesn’t sell, no…Read More
Some that are now blooming.
1-2: Triphena Parkin
3-4: Valkyrie
5-6: Pink Vanguard
7: Grand MassiveStill featured on the front page: Paeonia broteri. An Iberian (Spain/Portugal) peninsula endemic locally known as Rosa albardeira (Portugal) or Rosa de Alejandria (Spain). My plant is still small and needs some more years to grow to maturity clearly. Rather late flowering for a species, but it does look quite healthy.
From the city of Kharkiv, eastern Ukraine and under siege unfortunately. A wonderful video showing the young foliage of many species.
1 CommentBrassy Lady. A lutea hybrid with very beautiful flowers, although at times they are a bit hidden.

P. kesrouanensis and P. cambessedesii have flowered already, but this (as yet) unnamed hybrid one is very early as well, flowering together with its maternal parent P. caucasica. Who the father might be is unknown. It did take some battering from the late snow, wind and frosts this year, but always looking good to my eyes.
I’m always surprised to see how peonies react to late frosts. Early this morning and a few hours later, from terribly looking to standing firmly upright again. P. cambessedesii and P. wittmanniana.
