Seedling # IC-93-18. Parentage: Lactiflora ‘GERTRUDE ALLEN’ x lutea hybrid tree peony, ‘GOLDEN ERA’. First bloomed 2002. Semi-double, 30 to 40+ petals, average 5 inches across, 1-2 buds per stem. Stamens and pollen, no seeds. Carpels are pale green, smooth. Clear, bright, deep yellow with extremely large dark red flares that create a stunning color contrast. The center is extremely eye-catching due not only to the size and intensity of the flares but also the large number (12-15) that are typically displayed. The flower center contains a very attractive, dense ring of stamens and 3-4 pale green carpels with pink stigmata. Flowers are displayed on generally upright stems just above the excellent dark green foliage. An average bloomer with flowers from mid to late season and a bloom period of up to 2 ½ weeks. Low-growing symmetrical plant that averages 22-24 inches tall. Fragrance is mild but pleasing.
