Selected from seedlings of the species, P. lactiflora Pall. SINGLE. Red purple flowers,1-4 per stem, 12 cm in size (4½ in). Petals slightly cupped. Carpels average 3-4 in number, greyish green, sparsely hairy. Stigmas yellowish white having normal anatomy. Pollen bearing stamens. Fertile both ways. Fragrance. Broad pointed foliage. Stems dark purple-red at flowering. Upright growth, self-supporting, height to 81 cm (32 in). Early to mid-season bloom period. Long flowering period, 7-12 days for each flower. Tolerates warmer climates better than most other cultivars introduced from north China, both during the growing season, and during dormancy with less chilling needed.
